Alessandro Heights Background Council Representative and Ward: Frank Schiavone, Ward 4 The Alessandro Heights neighborhood land is the southernmost part of the original 53 square miles of Riverside. Though it was always part of the city, it remained largely undeveloped for residential uses until the last three decades. Part of this is due to its distance from the heart of Downtown and the hilly terrain it shares with all of southern Riverside. A majority of the land, because of the hilly environment, is zoned RC, Residential Conservation, which seeks to preserve the ridgelines of the city. Both the City of Riverside and the local residents are working hard to maintain the beautiful environment of this region. The neighborhood is enriched with three major natural arroyos; the Alessandro, the Prenda, and the Woodcrest (Arroyos are natural flows of water, smaller than rivers). In addition to the arroyos, the undeveloped east side of this small community boasts rugged topography and natural plateaus. The terrain, combined with the new estate residential development, make this neighborhood one of the more distinguished areas in the City of Riverside. Alessandro Heights is strictly a single-family residential neighborhood, developed primarily with estate lot houses. The largest homes, highest property values and highest income levels are all found in this small community.
